PBT Injection Molding

We mold PBT (and compatible grades) for functional, structural and aesthetic parts β€” from low-volume bridge production to high-volume runs. PBT is the resin behind dimensionally stable connector housings, UL94 V-0 fire-rated components and glass-fiber-strengthened structural parts; we run it on our automated presses under IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 control. Upload your 3D file and get a DFM review and quotation within 24 hours.

THE REAL DECISION

Small-Batch Sourcing, Done Right vs. Done Wrong

Low-volume buyers usually hit one of two paths. The wrong one costs months and doubles the budget; the right one gets real production parts in your hand in weeks. Here is what separates them.

The wrong path: high-temperature outgassing and degradation

Run the barrel above ~280 Β°C or spec PBT for sustained service past its heat-deflection ceiling, and the resin degrades, loses toughness and can outgas volatiles that fog lenses or contaminate sealed electronics. Heat management is decided at the machine β€” and our process window is monitored, not guessed.

The wrong path: dimensional drift from crystalline shrinkage

PBT is a crystalline resin shrinking 1.5–2.5 %, with shrinkage directional in filled grades. Without cavity compensation and locked process parameters, parts warp and tolerances drift between batches β€” a connector that mates at T1 starts failing in production.

WHAT WE OFFER

The Route That Fits Your Order

PBT: The Dimensionally Stable Resin for Electrical & Precision Parts

PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) combines excellent electrical insulation, glossy appearance and rapid precision molding cycles β€” the resin of choice for connectors, bobbins, keycaps and automotive electrical parts. MOLDITQUICK molds PBT and its alloys on our automated presses under IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 control.

Excellent electrical insulation β€” a first-choice dielectric for connectors, relays and switchgear.

Dimensionally stable β€” low moisture absorption (vs. nylon 2%+) means parts keep size in humid service.

Glossy, moldable surface β€” visible parts like keycaps and control knobs look good straight off the press.

High strength, stiffness and heat resistance β€” glass-filled grades hold dimensions and sustain heat up to 220 Β°C for structural electrical components.

Excellent oil and solvent resistance β€” suited to automotive under-hood and industrial environments.

Rapid precision molding β€” fast crystallization gives short cycles and predictable shrinkage.

Strong modification family β€” flame-retardant, GF-reinforced, GF+FR and PC/PBT alloys cover demanding specs.

PBT Grades & Modifications We Mold

The PBT modification families we mold β€” each targets a different electrical or mechanical spec, with 10–30% GF and UL94 V-0 grades verified on-site on our presses.

Unfilled PBT β€” good insulation, glossy surface and toughness for keycaps, knobs and housings.Glass-fiber reinforced PBT (10–30% GF) β€” stiffness, creep resistance and tight tolerances for structural electrical parts.Flame-retardant PBT (UL94 V-0) β€” the standard for connectors, bobbins and switchgear needing fire ratings.GF + flame-retardant PBT β€” structural and V-0 in one compound for high-spec electronic housings.PC/PBT alloy β€” automotive-grade blends (e.g., bumpers, window-motor housings) balancing toughness and chemical resistance.Lubricated and wear grades β€” gears, cams and sliding components in electronics and appliances.Colored and glass-bead-filled PBT β€” cosmetic housings and knobs that need stable, uniform color plus predictable shrinkage.

PBT vs. PA66 vs. PET vs. PPS: Which Resin Fits Your Spec?

PBT is rarely chosen in a vacuum β€” buyers weigh it against nylon, PET and PPS for the same housing, connector or structural part. Match your priority to the row that describes it.

Humid or outdoor service with stable dimensions and electricalsPBT β€” lowest moisture absorption of the polyesters; PA66 swells and drifts where PBT holds
Sustained heat, soldering or under-hood exposureGF-PBT up to ~220 Β°C HDT, or PPS where continuous heat is higher
Glossy cosmetic parts with fast cycles and printabilityPBT β€” fast crystallization, natural gloss, easy pad printing and laser marking
Impact and toughness demandsPC/PBT alloy or PA66 β€” PC/PBT blends balance toughness with chemical resistance
Fire-rated connectors, bobbins and switchgearFR PBT (UL94 V-0) or GF+FR PBT β€” with CTI checked against your creepage spec
Cost-sensitive high-volume electrical partsUnfilled or lightly filled PBT β€” fast cycles keep per-part cost low

PBT Processing Parameters We Control

Barrel and mold windows per published PBT molding data; shrinkage per industry-standard PBT data. Verified on-site on our presses under IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 control.

ParameterRecommended RangeWhy It Matters
Barrel temperature240–270 Β°CAbove ~280 Β°C PBT degrades and loses toughness β€” the window is tight and monitored.
Mold temperature40–80 Β°CHotter molds improve gloss and dimensional stability; cooler molds cycle faster.
Mold shrinkage1.5–2.5 %Crystalline resin β€” compensate in cavity sizing; GF grades shrink less and hold tighter tolerance.
Drying110–120 Β°C, 3–4 hPBT is hygroscopic β€” wet resin hydrolyzes at melt temperature and embrittles the part.
Wall thickness0.8–3 mm typicalThin walls exploit PBT flow; thick sections invite sink and voids.
Injection speedMedium-fastFills thin connector walls and fine features; controlled to avoid flash at the parting line.

FAQ

PBT Injection Molding β€” FAQ

Can you help with product development?

Yes. From design review and material selection to prototyping, tooling and mass production β€” our engineers support you through the entire product lifecycle.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship worldwide via air and sea freight, with export packing, documentation and delivery tracking handled by our team.

What quality inspections do you perform?

First article inspection, dimensional measurement, material verification and surface checks β€” with inspection reports provided per batch. Full details are agreed before production.

What is the difference between rapid and production tooling?

Rapid tooling uses softer materials and simplified construction for fast, low-cost validation runs (hundreds to low thousands of parts). Production tooling uses hardened steel for high-volume, long-life programs.

How long does injection mold making take?

Rapid tooling prototypes can be ready in days; production tooling typically takes several weeks depending on complexity, cavity count and steel grade. We confirm a detailed schedule with your quotation.

Do you provide DFM feedback?

Yes. Every quotation includes a design-for-manufacturing review: draft angles, wall thickness, gate and weld-line locations, tolerance recommendations and cost-saving suggestions β€” before any tooling is cut.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept STEP, IGES, STL, X_T and 2D drawings (PDF or DWG). A 3D model lets us quote most accurately; 2D drawings are used to confirm critical tolerances and specifications.

How do I get a quote?

Upload your 3D file (STEP, IGES, STL or X_T) through the quote page, or email it directly. Our engineers review the design, run a DFM check and send you a detailed quotation β€” usually within one business day.
