PMMA Injection Molding
We mold PMMA (acrylic) and compatible transparent grades for parts that must be seen through — lamp covers, lenses and display panels — where a streak, bubble or scratch is a rejected part, not a cosmetic nit. Optical-grade tooling and clean production keep every part water-white, from low-volume bridge runs to high-volume production.
THE REAL DECISION
Small-Batch Sourcing, Done Right vs. Done Wrong
Low-volume buyers usually hit one of two paths. The wrong one costs months and doubles the budget; the right one gets real production parts in your hand in weeks. Here is what separates them.
Transparent-part defects
Silver streaks, bubbles, weld lines and short shots are invisible on a drawing but fatal on a clear part — any one of them turns a lamp cover, lens or display into scrap the moment the customer inspects it.
Surface scratches & marks
PMMA is scratch-resistant but never scratch-proof: a scuffed cavity, dusty mold or rough ejection leaves fine marks that stand out on a glossy transparent surface — and no post-polishing fully hides them.

- ~92% transmission
- Low haze
- Precision optics
Impact-modified
Rubber-toughened acrylic for parts that face drops and knocks without losing clarity.
- Higher Izod impact
- Chip resistance
- Cosmetic parts
UV-stabilized outdoor
Formulated for lamp covers, signage and automotive exterior parts that must not yellow.
- Long-term UV stability
- Color retention
- Outdoor 5+ years
High-flow
Thin-wall and long-flow geometries molded with lower internal stress.
- Thin-wall fill
- Lower stress
- Faster cycles
Light-diffusing
Controlled haze for backlit panels, diffusers and indicator covers.
- Uniform glow
- LED covers
- Display panels
PMMA vs. PC vs. Glass: Choosing Your Transparent Material
For a see-through part, the material decision is a trade-off between clarity, impact strength and cost. Match your priority to the row that fits.
Where PMMA Injection Molding Pays

Lighting
Lamp covers and light-diffusing panels where transmission and UV stability are specified.
PMMA Processing Parameters We Control
Barrel, mold and shrinkage windows per published PMMA molding data; drying guidance per industry standard. Every window is verified on-site on our presses under ISO9001 / ISO13485 control.
| Parameter | Recommended Range | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel temperature | 200–250 °C | Above ~260 °C the melt degrades and yellows; tight residence-time control keeps optical parts water-white. |
| Mold temperature | 40–80 °C | Hotter molds replicate polished cavity surfaces and reduce stress; colder molds shorten the cycle. |
| Mold shrinkage | 0.3–0.6 % | Low and predictable for an amorphous resin — critical for lens and light-guide geometry. |
| Drying | 80–90 °C, 2–4 h | Hygroscopic resin — moisture in the melt is the #1 cause of silver streaks and bubbles. |
| Wall thickness | 1.5–5 mm typical | Uniform walls avoid sink marks and internal stress in transparent parts. |
| Injection speed | Medium, with controlled packing | Fast enough to fill thin sections, slow enough to avoid burning and jetting marks. |
PMMA: Why It's the Go-To Resin for Transparent Parts
PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate / acrylic) is the reference transparent plastic — the factory uses it most for lamp covers, product casings, vehicle lights and tool housings. MOLDITQUICK (Dongguan Guohong Precision, 10000 m², 280 staff) molds the same grades with ISO9001 / ISO13485 quality control.
The most light-transmitting plastic — up to ~92% transmission, with transparent, translucent and opaque color options across the range.
Good scratch resistance — surfaces survive handling better than PC or PS, cutting post-processing on many parts.
Outstanding weather resistance — UV-stable and non-yellowing, so outdoor lamp covers and signage keep their clarity for years.
Rigid and dimensionally stable — amorphous structure gives predictable shrinkage and holds tight optical geometry.
Glossy, aesthetic surfaces — high-gloss molded finish suits visible consumer and automotive parts without painting.
Proven appearance control — black spots, flash, scratches, weld lines and short shots are all checked against your acceptance standard, not ours.
FAQ
PMMA Injection Molding — FAQ
Can you help with product development?
Yes. From design review and material selection to prototyping, tooling and mass production — our engineers support you through the entire product lifecycle.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide via air and sea freight, with export packing, documentation and delivery tracking handled by our team.
What quality inspections do you perform?
First article inspection, dimensional measurement, material verification and surface checks — with inspection reports provided per batch. Full details are agreed before production.
What is the difference between rapid and production tooling?
Rapid tooling uses softer materials and simplified construction for fast, low-cost validation runs (hundreds to low thousands of parts). Production tooling uses hardened steel for high-volume, long-life programs.
How long does injection mold making take?
Rapid tooling prototypes can be ready in days; production tooling typically takes several weeks depending on complexity, cavity count and steel grade. We confirm a detailed schedule with your quotation.
Do you provide DFM feedback?
Yes. Every quotation includes a design-for-manufacturing review: draft angles, wall thickness, gate and weld-line locations, tolerance recommendations and cost-saving suggestions — before any tooling is cut.
What file formats do you accept?
We accept STEP, IGES, STL, X_T and 2D drawings (PDF or DWG). A 3D model lets us quote most accurately; 2D drawings are used to confirm critical tolerances and specifications.
How do I get a quote?
Upload your 3D file (STEP, IGES, STL or X_T) through the quote page, or email it directly. Our engineers review the design, run a DFM check and send you a detailed quotation — usually within one business day.
