What Is Hot Stamping?
Hot stamping — also called foil stamping or hot foil printing — transfers a dry pigment or metallic foil onto a part using a heated die and pressure. The die presses the foil carrier against the part; the foil's release layer melts and the pigment bonds to the surface in the shape of the die, leaving a clean, crisp mark with a solid metallic or colored appearance.
Because the mark is pressed into the surface at temperature rather than printed on top of it, hot stamping is resistant to scratching and wiping — and it produces a genuinely premium look at a fraction of the cost of plating or in-mold decoration. It is the standard method for logos, brand marks and decorative bands on appliance panels, automotive interior parts, cosmetic packaging and consumer electronics. Frequently Asked Questions
Which materials can be hot stamped?
ABS, PC, PC/ABS, PP, PA, acrylic, and painted or metal parts. PP and PE receive a brief flame or corona pre-treatment for reliable foil adhesion.
How durable is a hot-stamped mark?
Foil is abraded into the surface at temperature, so it withstands normal handling, wiping and mild solvents. For heavy wear or outdoor exposure we recommend laser engraving or PVD instead.
Can you stamp on curved or textured surfaces?
Yes. Silicone dies conform to mild curves, radii and steps, so knobs, housings and multi-level panels can all be stamped.
What registration accuracy can you hold?
Multi-position stamping holds ±0.2 mm registration between foil positions, verified on first article and sampled in production.
Do you make the stamping dies in-house?
Yes. Our tool shop machines brass and silicone dies, which keeps die lead time short and lets us iterate quickly during sampling.
